On Saturday October 27, 2007 Mesami had a Halloween Party. The theme for this party was "Pirates of Mesami." Through the course of the night two teams of pirates followed Captain Oak (Mimi) and Captain Josephine (Robin) as they sang pirate songs, tackled pirate lore/history, and then went on a pirate quest. Through the course of this quest these pirates visited different locations, faced different challenges, and finally their captains dueled each other in an epic swordfight. At the end of the night the crew of the good ship Redwood, under the leadership of Captain Oak were the recipients of the Turkey Baster of Victory! The crew of the Midnight Marauder came in with a close second and a good time was had by all!
Before the night began, prep work was required. Robert, Rob, and Brian could be found creating new games, decorating the house, carving a pirate ship pumpkin (isn't it amazing?), making snacks, cutting out game pieces, producing videos, and coming up with pirate costumes for Captain Bill, Captain Aarghy, and of course Captain Chong of PALz fame.
Of course as they worked weeks before and then the day of they were assisted by best friend Skipper, a vocal helper. Many hours were spent in creating the game "Pirates' Lair." Tools were created, locations figured out, what each tool would do in each location and the consequences they could cause (yes, we know you loved those!). Game pieces were then designed, printed, cut out (as Rob is doing in the picture), and then distributed around the house for this game. Outside of Pirates' Lair, a Pirates Lore/History challenge was written. Videos were also written, recorded, produced, and shown in the evening starring Robert A. Laird as Captain Bill, a modern day sea man recounting his experiences with Pirates through his years on the seas. Captain Bill also acted as a moderator throughout the course of the night as he told stories of the Pirates of Mesami, what it takes to be a pirate, and introduction of all the activities for the evening.

The night of Pirates of Mesami found the house full of pirates! The original Pirate of Mesami, Captain Chong (Rob) led the charge with enthusiasm and gusto.

Of course as soon as the night got going, the pirates true colors came out! Thankfully nobody was harmed! :)

Waiting for the festivities to begin.

Look at how patient they are, what is Robin looking at anyway?

The Pirate Lords of Mesami!
(Brian, Robert, Rob)
The Pirates of Mesami! Yes, that is all of them! Don't they look fierce?

More of the Pirate Crew, not sure what Captain Chong is about to do. . .

What can I say? He was hungry all night and his sword seemed as good as anything else?

Pirate Crew Redwood's Song
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
On our first day of pirating,
We sailed about the sea,
I saw a ship of sugar,
Then we ate it hee hee hee
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
On our second day of pirating,
We went to our lair,
We dropped off what we had,
And then we saw a bear.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
The bear was very frightening,
We shot it with our guns,
And then the bear roared really loud,
And we decided to run.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
The bear was very angry,
It chopped off all our heads,
Now it's safe to tell the tale,
Of the pirates who be dead.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!

Pirate Crew Midnight Marauder's Song
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
We're the proudest crew there ever was,
To sail the seven seas,
We be not rebels without a cause,
We do just as we please.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
We go and pillage every village,
We plunder all year round,
We've never lost a battle,
We always stand our ground.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
We go and drink our share of rum,
It's never quite enough,
People think us a bunch of drunks,
but we think we're quite tough.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
The king and his subjects live in fear,
That we will rob them too,
So give yer life and all yer wealth,
Or join our pirate crew.
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!
Oh Aye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dye Dee Dum!

He found his snack! Hopefully THAT will fill him up!

Both crews search for the Pirate's Lair. One avoids bats and the other awaits to see what lies ahead!

As they search for Pirates' Lair, they must face the Pirate Ship!

It's time to play some Pirates' Dice! Will they be victorious?

Yes, it is looking like Pirates' Dice it is!

The pirates climb the cliff en route to the Pirates' Lair! Will they be successful??

What could it mean!?!?

Falling asleep on the job? Or did they fall asleep in a cave? Or did they just eat too much??

And what pirate night could we have without our two fearless captains gallantly dueling?
